IMMERSION - B: 2nd Sun in Ord Time

IMMERSION – B: 2nd Sunday of Ordinary Time (14 Jan 2024)

The Greek verb baptizein, from which the concept “to baptize” is derived, literally means “to immerse” or “to submerge”. It pertains not only to the ceremonial ablution of the catechumen into the baptismal font, but connotes, too, one’s immersed spiritual state of knowing, feeling, and empathizing with the miserable situation of the poor and the oppressed. To be baptized in God’s name is to be one in spirit with the other children of God.
